2011_ford explorer The 2011 Ford Explorer is a 7-passenger crossover motored by a 3.5L V6 TiVCT engine with 10.8  to 1 compression ratio, rated at 283 hp and 252 lb.-ft of torque.  Standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic.  Alternatively it can be had with a 6-speed auto with auto-manual feature.   Fuel efficiency is good at 20 mpg combined for the front wheel drive (FWD).  The new Ford Explorer is constructed with a unibody chassis which gives a comfortable carlike driving experience, while still capable of handling off-road conditions.  Ford Terrain Management in the all-wheel drive (4WD) option assist in multi-terrain driving with setting for normal, mud, or snow environment.  The independent front strut and rear multi-link suspension employs gas-pressurized twin tube shocks.  Standard equipments include Roll Stability Control (RSC) and curve control, trailer sway control, Hill Start Assist, manual single zone climate control and rear auxiliary climate control, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, 6 speaker audio, 1st row center floor console with wrapped armrest and storage bin, four 12V power outlet, front cloth bucket seat, 2nd row 60/40 split fold-flat bench seat, 3rd row 50/50 split-fold seat, cargo hook, manual liftgate, quasi dual exhaust with chrome tips, and 17” steel wheels.
